Just Lydia

I took these pictures on Valentine's Day, intending to post some of them then.  See how prompt I am, as always?

So, now it's not Valentine's Day and I have to actually think of something to say.  I have been meaning to post all the funny things that Lydia says because she is quite the chatterbox these days.  Problem is, it is 10:30 pm and I think my brain has shut down for the night.

Dude, I know she says stuff...  What is the stuff?

Well, for starters... when I sing she yells, "STOP IT, MOMMY!!"  and if I keep singing she clarifies, "STOP IT SING!!!".  Hmmmph.

She likes "Yo Yo Gabooo" and Dumbo.

She likes to drink milk, but I am not sure if she actually eats food.  Unless it is pasta, applesauce or goldfish.

She likes to boss everyone and fight with her siblings.  Especially Kitty, she is always telling Kitty off for something or other.

When she tells Mr. Bingley to sit, it sounds... not like sit.  And she will yell it over and over, which makes it worse.  Good thing our neighbors are too far away to overhear her potty mouth.  She loves Mr. Bingley but is afraid of him at the same time.  She will put her arms out and beg, "I wanna hold him!" but then when he gets near enough she flinches and backs away.

She is gigantic.  I couldn't tell you what percentile for height she is because I'm not one of those moms that is current on well child visits and such... You know, fifth child, homeschool, lazy+forgetful...  It's not a good combination.  But, I can tell you that she is tall.  The clothes that fit Kitty at this age are much shorter on her.  And she is taller than kids that are older than her.

And she talks a lot.  She wants very much to be included in all the things the big kids do.  When I am working on the alphabet with Kitty, Lydia will come in and demand a writing utensil so that she can do her "Es!".  Or her "E-O-Ys".  Which means nothing, they're just letters she has overheard and feels the need to practice.  By "practice" I mean scribbling all over my floors, chairs, books, and the occasional piece of paper.

She can count to ten as long as you don't mind her leaving out half the numbers.  "Two five sick eight nine ten.".  Still, not bad for a one year old.

We think she might be left-handed.  She eats and draws with her left hand quite a bit.  Not exclusively, so we are interested to see which way she goes.  I just went and looked at all these pictures and she is using her right... so who knows.

She is growing up really, really fast.  The above average height, the 5-6 word sentences...  She seems older than she is, which makes it feel like her babyhood is slipping by faster than it did with the others.  And part of me is ready to embrace the end of babies and everything that goes with them... diaper changes and high chairs and all that stuff.  But I can't help wish the last 21 months had gone a bit slower.

You know the parents that always tell you "Enjoy this time because it goes too quickly" and you're like, "Oh yeah, come to my house every afternoon from 4-6 pm for the longest 2 hours of your life which will make you contemplate calling NASA to see if the Earth is still rotating"?   It's true, though.  Both are true.  The days are long, some days are painfully, brutally long.  But the weeks go by so quickly.  The months fly by.  And the long days never get shorter, but the years somehow go faster.

So love them while you've got them.

Your last statement is so very true. I have my adult sons still at home and I love this time in my life but I find myself gazing up to our family photos of yesterday and wishing, even if for only a day, to go back to those sweet pudgy faces. Your youngest is a beauty =)

Oh wow. That last paragraph is pure truth.

Keep on keepin' on, Mary.
